Architecturally less post-modern and more single-family oriented than its Cherry Creek neighbor, the elite Hilltop neighborhood is bordered on the south by Alameda Avenue, the west by Colorado Boulevard, the east by Holly Street and the north by 8th Avenue. It’s held close to the earth by the abundance of classic ranches and Tudors that interrupt the sprawling neo-eclectic and contemporary-style mansions spring up like brick, stone and stucco giants. In addition, there’s an unusual amount of prairie-influenced houses and broad-shouldered colonials, specifically around “mansions row” along 6th Avenue and bordering the Cranmer Park. There are also a noticeable amount of missions and Spanish accents adding a rounded window, exposed beam flare to the overall architectural tone. There are few, if any, apartments, duplexes or condos. A mix of mature and newly-planted trees are abundant along the wide streets, and houses are set further from the sidewalks leaving more front yard space.

There are a few clustered shops and restaurants along the bordering areas of Hilltop. For a kid-friendly spot with arguably the best burgers in town try the Hillcrest Grill, or practice that backhand at the Denver Tennis Club, or try a thin slice of heaven at Basil Docs. Although Hilltop lacks the small-town convenience of neighborhood shops, it borders Cherry Creek North with its abundance of boutiques, salons and upscale restaurants. Also, what Hilltop lacks in commerce it makes up for in privacy and proximity to public parks. Whether you’re running with the dog at Robinson Park, dropping the kids at soccer practice at Cranmer Park, or just sitting in the shade of public art at Burn Park, the vast array of football, softball, basketball, soccer and picnic areas are almost endless.
Although there are no high rises and few (if any) duplexes, apartments, condos or flats in Hilltop there is a noticeable amount of new construction, specifically “scrapes” and pop tops. Almost every other block has single-family houses in different stages of development. It seems inevitable that with the neighborhood balance shifting toward larger neo-eclectic and contemporary homes, some of those older ranches are headed for the bulldozer.
