Homes in Cherry Creek, Colorado

Cherry Creek is probably the most be-seen-in neighborhood in Denver. Located to the southeast of downtown it is bordered on the east by University, on the west by Colorado Boulevard, on the south by Cherry Creek Drive South and on the north by 6th Avenue.

Architecturally, Cherry Creek real estate is largely neo-eclectic-style houses, meaning it’s a stylized combination of home-types such as Tudor, mission, prairie and post-modern. Typically, these are combined in facades of half-brick/stone and half-stucco with arched doors and big windows. There are also some traditional mission homes, an unusual amount of erratically juxtaposed post-moderns and blocks of mission-accented townhomes with arched window and doors, red roofs and round stucco pillars. In the midst of this architectural hodge-podge are some older brick apartment buildings, ranches, bungalows and slope-roofed Tudor cottages. Aesthetically, the streets are wider and lined with younger trees than other city neighborhoods. Homes for sale in Cherry Creek are listed with the zip code of 80206.

There’s no place more synonymous with top-shelf shopping, eating or all-around pampering than Cherry Creek North. It’s a breeding ground for salons, boutiques and upscale eateries. The sidewalks are punctuated with trees, plots of flowers and artsy-industrial metal street signs.

Try the Chinook Tavern for delicious German-infused fare, the Cherry Cricket for a fun after-dinner beer and Havana’s Fine Cigars for a tasty nightcap. However, Cherry Creek North isn’t the only shopping hot-spot in this zip code. Along Steele Street there’s a Crate and Barrel, Whole Foods and Bed Bath and Beyond. Try the high-end Cherry Creek Mall, or Colorado Boulevard where KFC, Target and PetSmart set the tone. Additionally, beyond University on the west side is the Denver Country Club, while Washington Park is just southwest and the 40-mile long Cherry Creek bike path traces the bottom border. Additionally, Colorado and Steele/Speer Boulevard are a major thoroughfares leading to I-25, I-70 or both.

While it seems like everyone is buying and selling properties in Cherry Creek, new development seems pretty slim. A few newer projects include the 2nd and Detroit mixed-use condo building with 35-40 units. At 3rd and Josephine a single unit Houston’s restaurant is slated to begin construction, and just up the street at 3rd and Clayton there’s a proposed mixed-use building of 3-5 condos. North Creek at 1st and Detroit will include 36 residential units, 25,000 square feet of office space and ground floor retail. A second phase will include an additional 18 residential units, while the final phase will include 8 brownstones and will be completed by 2009. Also slated for completion by 2009 is the Clayton and 3rd mixed-use building, which includes 18,000 square feet of retail space and 3 residential units on the top floor.
